UPMC Health Plan earns top marks for LGBTQ equality for third year in a row
UPMC Health Plan and Community Care Behavioral Health have again earned the highest score possible and a “Best Place to Work for LGBTQ Equality” honor from the Human Rights Campaign Foundation.
This marks the third consecutive year that UPMC Health Plan and the second consecutive year that Community Care received the HRC Foundation’s “Best Places to Work for LGBTQ+ Equity” and reflects UPMC’s stated values of “Dignity & Respect” for all LGBTQ+ employers and members. Across UPMC, 26 facilities have been recognized by the HRC Foundation for LGBTQ+ policies.
The Human Rights Campaign Foundation is the largest civil rights organization working to achieve equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) people. LGBTQ individuals often experience discrimination and other challenges because of their sexual orientation or gender identity.
Dedication to the LGBTQ community
UPMC Health Plan earned this rating because of our policies, benefits, and practices aimed at improving equity for the LGBTQ community in the workplace and beyond. Our dedication extends to LGBTQ patients and caregivers at UPMC and in the community. We ensure that LGBTQ patients have easy access to clinical care and supportive services that help them navigate their health care journey.
Specialized services and supports
The Health Plan has a website dedicated to LGBTQ health. We participate in many partnerships, sponsorships, and other initiatives that support LGBTQ employees and their families.
We also have a dedicated Member Services team for transgender members. Health Care Concierges give our members who are transgender access to award-winning Member Services support, which includes explaining transgender coverage and answering questions about related issues. Team members can also refer people to community resources for the transgender community. These Health Care Concierges are specifically trained to provide member support from a variety of departments, including Customer Service, Pharmacy, Care Management, Medical Policy, and Pediatrics.
